Who can provide 35hr contact hours in project management education ?

PMI® has accepted that candidates can satisfy the 35 hour requirement by successfully completing courses, workshops and training sessions through one or more of the following types of education providers:

  • University/college academic and continuing education programs
  • Courses or programs offered by training companies or consultants**
  • Courses or programs offered by PMI Component organizations
  • Courses or programs offered by PMI Registered Education Providers (R.E.P.)
  • Courses or programs offered by employer/company-sponsored programs
  • Courses or programs offered by distance-learning companies

No separate authorization is required from PMI to conduct 35 hour programs

Is it necessary for a service provider to be an REP for providing 35 hour contact hour program?

PMI does not stipulate that an institution or organization be an REP for providing 35 hr contact hour programs .They could be one of the above listed categories .

Is it advisable to become a PMI member before taking the PMP exam . If so, What are the benefits ?

Yes – it is beneficial to become a PMI member .
There is a financial saving considering the following .For Non members – the PMP exam fee is $550 .For members it is $ 405 . The annual fee for membership $119 .

  • A member gets the CD ( printable version ) of PMBOK which is required for studying for the exam .
  • You also get access to journals and Online E Reads /reference which has very valuable Books / articles and information on best practices .

What is the type of exam and where can you take it ?

It is 4 hour multiple choice exam ( one out of four ) with 200 questions and conducted online .The exam can be taken in any Prometric center anytime after prior registration .
